While the attorneys in our Appeals and Writs Practice Group are strong brief writers and effective oral advocates, the appellate services we offer extend well beyond briefing and oral argument. Through extraordinary writ petitions, we help our clients attack and defend significant rulings in advance of trial and judgment. We also work with trial counsel to frame and brief important legal issues early in the litigation, preserve issues for review, prepare post-trial motions and strategies, identify issues for appeal and assist in negotiations and case settlement. The issues we have handled on appeal are as diverse as the Firm’s litigation practice and we have a substantial record of success on behalf of our clients. The members of our Appeals and Writs Practice Group are highly skilled in all facets of appellate law and provide special expertise and a fresh perspective that compliment the role of trial attorneys. They have extensive experience in state and federal appellate courts and have handled matters in the United States Courts of Appeals for the Federal and Ninth Circuits, the California Supreme Court, all districts of the California Court of Appeal and the Oregon Supreme Court. The Chair of the Group is a retired Justice of the California Court of Appeal. Our appellate team is available to handle or assist in any appeal in which a client may be involved. We also have extensive experience in handling referrals and will work with in-house counsel or counsel from other firms who have handled the underlying litigation.
